Week 40
Week 40
Just when I thought I hadn't done enough to warrant a blog this week...
We've been slowly going through all the stuff in the office. In an old filing cabinet Janny found a 20 year old cash stash :-) and a newspaper article from The Northern Territory...
Haha, I was telling someone just the other day that if I had a meeting anywhere else in Australia then I used to have to fly for a day, have the meeting, and fly back again the next day. So, it probably looked pretty bad and so remarkably different to the online meetings of today.
Ben has a moustache at the moment and we thought that this old photo looks a bit like him.
(I think St.Kilda Fire Station circa 1986)
.
My helper Tjeerd comes back tomorrow.
Another apartment is now empty - the family of four have moved into the largest apartment and are enjoying the extra room.
The smaller apartment has developed a bit of mould, so I'm planning to insulate the inside walls in the same way we did the larger apartment.
This time, I know what has to be done - and I have just about all the materials needed - I'll just have to buy the insulation and plasterboard.
I took another photo of the display in the DIY shop, just to be sure...
Slowly getting ready....won't have to shift the heating radiators this time. The wall on the right (below) is going to be tackled from the outside - otherwise the ultra small bedroom would become a cupboard :-)...
This is Janny's Mum's patch, which he likes to keep tidy...
Solar panels, et al
I have arranged for company to come and look at the viability of a battery to connect to our solar panels. They also think that they can utilise the rest of our roof for more panels...bit of a long term project...but I'm curious because I have thought from the outset that a battery should be the way to go...
The company in Harlingen have built (or are building) their own battery just so they can make their own informed decisions about viability. The existing electricity companies say that "they are not viable" - but what else would they say. Imagine if we made and used our own electricity...
More than half of the total electricity production in the Netherlands now comes from renewable sources, such as wind and sun. Production from wind in particular increased significantly in the first half of 2024. This increase will continue in the coming years due to new wind farms.
In the first half of this year, production from renewable sources rose to 32.2 billion kWh. That is 53 percent of the total, according to figures presented today by the CBS statistics agency .
The total production in those six months amounts to 60.5 billion kWh. This means that for the first time, more electricity was produced from natural sources than from fossil sources. Total consumption rose by 5 percent to 55.8 billion kWh. According to the CBS, this is slightly below the pre-corona level.
